Learning Objectives for Somatic Concentric Sex Therapy 1: Foundations

  • 1. Describe the core principles of the Somatic-Concentric Sex Therapy model, including its neurobiological foundations.
  • 2. Examine personal and professional biases related to sexuality, including the impact of the therapist's social location on the client's social-sexual ecology.
  • 3. Apply a sex therapy framework that is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and ethically grounded, which includes examining power dynamics, practicing embodied consent, and working with diverse bodies, identities, and abilities.
  • 4. Assess and conceptualize sexual and intimacy concerns using somatic and movement-based approaches, including a body-centered understanding of the human sexual response cycle.
  • 5. Demonstrate the use of somatic and experiential interventions, including erotic mapping, bodyful practices, and Dance Movement Therapy techniques, in work with individuals and couples.
  • 6. Evaluate and ethically navigate erotic transference and countertransference within the therapeutic relationship.
  • 7. Integrate trauma-informed considerations into somatic sex therapy, particularly when working with survivors and complex relational dynamics.
