In this setting, creative arts therapists are meant to work alongside a larger treatment team to support youth during an acute period of psychiatric symptoms before they are discharged and connected to various levels of more long-term treatment in the community. We will explore the way that dance/movement, mindfulness, writing, humor-based, and meditative practices can support a sense of stability and comfort with accessible and concrete experiential practices. Come ready to move, create, and laugh as we experience the ways that even the briefest creative arts therapy practice can encourage emotional regulation and adaptive coping strategies during times of crisis.
